MediSolution is a leading information technology company headquartered in Montreal, Canada. More than 300 healthcare, public, and service-sector organizations rely on MediSolution’s systems to maximize their operational efficiencies, lower their costs, and improve service delivery. However, in order to maximize the efficiency of their own operations, the IT team at MediSolution realized that they would have to replace the legacy Alpha hardware running their business-critical systems. Indeed, they were running out of data storage space, and maintenance costs had become excessive.
MediSolution needed a system with more storage and lower annual running costs. Migrating applications to a new platform would increase storage capacity but would also take a lot of time and involve considerable expense and risk. They considered adding another AlphaServer to their existing configuration, which would have doubled capacity but also doubled maintenance costs. Moreover, it would have required twice the space and increased energy consumption at a time when most businesses are striving to reduce their carbon footprint. Either strategy would mean recompiling existing applications, a complex and time-consuming task. MediSolution therefore decided to explore other options.
