Our Sun SPARC virtualization product, Charon-SSP, creates the virtual replica of the original Sun SPARC hardware inside a standard 64-bit x86 compatible with the LINUX based host. This powerful Sun emulator allows you to run the original SPARC binary code, including the Sun Solaris Operating Systems, their layered products, and applications.
Charon-SSP offers three versions – 4M, 4U and 4V. Each tailored to replace the following Sun SPARC Solaris computer systems with their virtual equivalents running on a Linux host platform. The ability to modernize these legacy systems through Sun SPARC virtualization ensures continued functionality without the need for extensive software changes.
SPARC virtualization is only implemented to the aging legacy hardware system. The Sun Solaris operating system OR SunOS and all software that is running in that environment remain working as always. Very few changes to the original software (SolarisOS, layered products, or applications) are required, and their management routines remain the same.
Charon-SSP virtualizes the 32-bit Sun SPARC-4m/V8 platform, 64-bit Sun SPARC-4u/V9 and Sun SPARC-4v/V9 platforms. Due to the overhead of emulation, a performance evaluation must be performed for fast SPARC platforms such as the M-, T-and S-series servers to determine if the Linux SPARC emulator can deliver the necessary performance. The emulator software layer presents almost all virtual onboard devices to the upper layer, from the SPARC Solaris Operating System/SunOS to the applications.
Charon-SSP is compatible with the leading SPARC virtualization solutions such as VMware, Oracle VM, etc. This makes it a versatile choice for maintaining your Sun SPARC Solaris environment.
Charon Manager is an integrated component of the Charon-SSP product. It provides an easy-to-use and intuitive graphical interface to manage Charon-SSP and virtual SPARC legacy systems either locally or remotely. Charon Manager can be installed as a standalone application on Linux, and it works as the virtual Sun SPARC management station.
Charon-SSP utilizes Stromasys’ unique dynamic instruction translation technology (i.e., DIT) to improve runtime Sun SPARC instruction execution speed. This DIT technology and carefully designed architecture bring the virtual SPARC UNIX system’s performance industry standards, further demonstrating the capabilities of Sun emulator.
Charon-SSP supports both hardware license keys and software licenses. Users get the flexibility to select the preferred protection method. When a Sun SPARC hardware USB license key is used, the Charon USB HASP license key must be permanently connected to the host system. It preserves the customer-specific license parameters while modernizing the Sun SPARC Solaris systems.
Eliminate any need for source code alteration or code conversion and experience effortless integration with Sun Solaris virtualization software. Maintain your system's original environment and move from those daunting migration solutions. With Charon-SSP, the transition is so seamless that you don’t even notice it.
